I liked some things about this book, but sadly it had too many cliche moments. There were moments that had me rolling my eyes at their conversations. Some of their exchanges felt so cliche and fake it ruined it for me. I remember this one point where he is talking to himself and he says that he fell in love with her bravery when he saw her for the first time and I just wanted to get a refund for my money. Just thinking about it makes me roll my eyes. Not really a spoiler since their meeting takes place within the first few chapters, but to pretend that he loved her when he saw her because he thought she was brave is as ridiculous as someone saying that the Earth is the center of the universe. I felt a bit cheated since I really enjoyed the first book and I do like these characters. However, their development was all over the place. Since this is a pricey book, I recommend you skip it. Read the first one and skip the rest.

A Texan Luck Jodi Thomas 9780515138481 Books Reviews

I love all of Jodi Thomas' books. She is extremely talented. She does such a fabulous job delivering the story line and making you feel like you are really there. I love the factual aspects of the history in the books and enjoy every series that she has. Highly recommended.
I love the author, Jodi Thomas. Her characters are always rich in personality. It's hard to believe that back in the day, you could just buy a bride, if you wanted one. The tension between the son and his purchased bride his dad bought him was sometimes really frustrating. The author sucks the reader in and has us all wrapped up in the characters as if we were family. The history of the old west and how people lived back then is fascinating. I read every book Jodi Thomas publishes as soon as they are available and I look forward to the next story.
I like Jodi Thomas' writing style. I purchased this book (paperback) as well as others in the series, years ago. I loaned them to a friend and haven't seen the since. Enjoyed re-reading it.
I am so excited. I’ve found a new author. I just finished all 3 books in the series, the 2nd being my favorite, but all so enjoyable. I laughed so at some of the way she words things. Funny, romantic, exciting and just plain enjoyable. Thanks Jodi!
I have reread this series twice. All four books are eventful and each one you read you will think is the best. Besides being fast paced and full of danger, it is really funny. As soon as you think you're up against the wall Sarah will say something that makes you laugh. I never plan to delete any of the four books in this series from my kindle. The style of the series remains the same but each stands alone. I keep changing my mind as to which is the best.
A Texan's Luck is a hard one for me to review because I have mixed feelings about it. If I was asked what I thought about the first half of the book I'd say it was horrible. There wasn't one bit of romance until more than half way through the book, in fact Lacy did nothing but be nasty to Walker through the first half. I didn't think she was anything like she was in the previous two books. I wanted to slap her most of the time, she was hateful to Walker. All she did was say don't do this to me, don't do that to me, leave me alone etc. She even slapped him once and tired to again. If I were Walker I would have packed up and said good riddance. I didn't like her in the first half of the book but later ended up loving her. She was written very different in the second half. The first half of the story was boring and dragged on and on with nothing really happening. It was hard to keep reading.

Now the other side. More than half way through it started to pick up, things were happening and Lacy started to soften up. I thought it strange she went from being a shrew to the "Captain" as she called Walker, then all of a sudden she does an about face for no reason. No gradual change of feeling at all. Walker was a bit stiff but you could tell he was soft underneath, he just needed to be in control on the surface. That made him endearing, especially further into the book. I ended up loving these two in the second half of the book, the story was fast moving and really good. I loved the ending and also loved visiting Bailee and Carter, though I would have liked to have read more about them in this book. There was a good amount of sex in the book which I really liked, sometimes Jodi just skims over it and doesn't give it its due. I wish the first half of the book was better (I'd give it a 1 star) because the second half was really good (5 stars!).
This was better than the last one, but I still skimmed the first part of their time at the fort. Despite being on leave, Walker disappears on a secret mission that everyone knows about but Lacy. Everyone, including Walker, throws orders at her and keeps her in ignorance to save her worry. I got sick of that and skipped forward. That situation is such a cliche I didn't think I needed to read it another time.

I never did understand the first scene. I still have no idea why Lacy showed up at Walker's fort at the beginning of the book to demand sex. After that the book flashes forward two years to the period in which the book takes place.

I did like Walker and Lacy. I can see how it would be difficult to stop giving orders after giving them for years. Lacy worked hard to make a life for herself and didn't need him when the book finally starts. I liked that Walker wasn't the classic man whore soldier. He was every inexperienced.

The only part that struck me as dumb was that Walker is very uncomfortable that he "ha[s] are a very particular set of skills. Skills [he has] acquired over a very long career. Skills that make [him] a nightmare for people". He is expert at killing and the army sends him on jobs no one else can do. He hates this to the point that (remember he's a career army captain) "he'd promised himself a long time ago that he'd never teach another man to kill." Why is he in the army? What is he teaching and to what use does he think those lessons will be put?
I liked some things about this book, but sadly it had too many cliche moments. There were moments that had me rolling my eyes at their conversations. Some of their exchanges felt so cliche and fake it ruined it for me. I remember this one point where he is talking to himself and he says that he fell in love with her bravery when he saw her for the first time and I just wanted to get a refund for my money.
